Born in the city of Ogden, Utah, Kyle "Keelay" Pierce has been grew up in a household of athletics. Somehow Keelay always found himself as the child in his room with the boom box on full blast. “I never grew up with being surrounded by music or having family members who played. I was just always infatuated with music I just wanted to be a part of it so badly.” Pierce explains. From a very early age Keelay started buying every piece of music that he could and the more... musical journey began.
Pierce has since found his way to San Francisco California where he has spent the past 10 years honing his production skills. With Keelay’s beats gaining praise in the Bay Area, Keelay linked up with fellow producer Zaire in 2007, via the message board at Undergroundhiphop.com. The two started trading beats over instant messenger and began working on their debut record Ridin High. The two producers first released their Ridin High EP on OM Records that very same year. This was only an appetizer as to what would later be released as the Ridin High LP on Myx Music Label in 2009. The two producers found themselves working with the likes of Blu, Saafir, Phonte, Tash of the Alkoholiks, Emilio Rojas, Rasco, Planet Asia, and Nino Moschella to name a few, to create one their first official full length. With the album being heralded from by media outlets such as Okayplayer, MTVU, Complex Magazine and many more Ridin High was really just the beginning.
Since the debut of Ridin High, Pierce has formed a Marketing and PR company, Quality Control Marketing, along side former Myx Music Label owner Karim Panni and partners, Ian Davis, Jon Kim and Eamon Mulligan. Keelay explains “for me a producer is somebody who can take an artist or artists and go beyond the beats, beyond the hooks, beyond the songs and develop a project in all avenues of this business as well as the music.” But it’s not only business for Keelay, never one to be "Boxed in", Pierce has more recently branched out and lended his production efforts to the newly formed band Grillade. Grillade consists of Keelay, The Park and vocalist Ragen Fykes. “I started as a fan, then grew into creating my own music with samples of my favorites. Now my goal is to make music that folks would want to sample and it has never been more satisfying” Kyle "Keelay" Pierce, is on his way to becoming a driving force in not only the resurgence of Hip Hop, RnB or Soul, but the musical movement towards bringing honesty back to the forefront. Making music to be remembered by.
