Music Dealers Out N' About: Marla & The Special Ks @ The Bowery, London
March 1, 2011, 12:45pm
On the 21st February the Music Dealers London office were invited down to The Bowery (which used to be The Fly) for the single launch of Marla’s ‘Betty the Raver’. Marla was supported by The Special Ks, so it was a great opportunity for us to see two of our exciting UK artists playing live. Marla was as charming as ever, strutting her stuff in some amazing sparkly hotpants! The venue was packed full of adoring fans who were all singing along to every song. She did a great set including some of her most catchy songs, ’40 winks’ and ‘lipstick for the vampires’.
The Special Ks then piled onto the stage with what looked like enough equipment for a ten-piece band. They blew us all away with their massive sound and very catchy, electro pop songs. We particularly enjoyed the songs ‘BOA’ and ‘Dark Blue’ and found them stuck in out heads for days after. Despite the damaged eardrums, the gig was thoroughly enjoyable and we can’t wait to see them again soon.
Well that’s all for now from us in London. Please watch the video and check out Marla and The Special Ks, we promise you won’t be disappointed!

Music Dealers Out N' About: Shannon Curtis @ Elbo Room 2.17.11

Greetings Guys, I am William Jara, and I'm here with our latest installment of "Music Dealers: Out N' About." I was talking to one of my very talented artists the other day when she was so kind as to invite me to a show she had here in Chicago. Its not everyday you can add a face, voice, and personality to music you enjoy, so of course I was inclined to check her out.

Needless to say; I enjoyed every minute of it. With the mastery of skilled painter, her voice was the brush that filled the canvas of Elbo Room with a full spectrum of color. Her voice alone was enough to make the hair on my arms stand on end. When accompanied by her Wurlitzer playing and the use of laid back notes and perfect vocal timing, I know you will be able to enjoy the image she creates. I'm very happy to have been invited, so of course I'm happy to be sharing this with the world. Have a wonderful weekend guys!!

Music Dealers Out N' About: Slum Village @ Double Door Chicago 7.10.2010
July 14, 2010, 4:42pm
Last Saturday Music Dealers was in the building at Double Door. Slum Village headlined the evenings festivites and had the crowd in the palm of their hands the second their feet touched the stage. Breezing through cuts from their new album "Villa Manifesto" (due out July, 27 2010), remaining members T3 and Elzhi traded bars back and fourth like the seasoned pros that they are. Despite the AC being off on a 85 degree night and having the placed packed, all in attendance completely forgot about the otherwise unbearable heat when classic cuts like "Climax", "Tainted", "Fall In Love" came blasting out of the house speakers. In addition to T3 and Elzhi controlling the crowd, they were soon joined by rumored new member Illa J (younger brother of SV co-founding member and producer extrodinaire J-Dilla who passed away in 2006), causing the crowd to erupt. Upon his entry to the stage Slum went into their classic "Raise It Up" which sent the whole place into a frenzy.
