North Coast, the young, yet extremely well-received Chicago-based music festival that has been coined, “Summer’s Last Stand,” kicks off August 29 - 31 at Union Park within Chicago’s Near West community.
Launched in 2010, the festival has become a staple of Chicago’s summer festival season. This year, noted acts such as timeless MC, Snoop Dogg, chill wave group, Washed Out, and Swedish electro/R&B group, Little Dragon, will entertain the thousands in attendance.
We’re proud to announce that among these great artists will be five rising Music Dealers artists performing at this year’s event. We’ve created a playlist of music from these rising stars, and have also added music from current Music Dealers artists that have played North Coast in the past. Access the playlist by clicking the image below. Scroll down to see who’s playing this year’s North Coast Festival!
“The Great Unsigned” Performing At North Coast 2014:
Artist: Talib Kweli
Renowned hip hop MC and member of supergroup Blackstar, Talib Kweli joined the Music Dealers artist community in February of 2014. Already a lyrical legend and fixture in the world of music and hip hop, Kweli brings his distinct flavor of earthy hip hop to Music Dealers and the North Coast 2014 lineup.
ProCause is one of the fasted rising stars out of Chicago, touring with a variety of acts including hip hop legend Twista, electronic DJ Steve Aoki, music mogul Sean Combs, and hip hop artist Curren$y. With a style liberated from the traditional confines of hip hop, ProbCause excels by incoporating dubstep, electronic, and even R&B to weave a distinct sound all his own.
Jazz? Funk? Blues? Pop/Rock? Chicagoland jam band Zaramela incorporates these genres and more, resulting in a musical fusion as unique as the band name itself. Formed in 2011, the band released their first EP in 2012, and has since worked tirelessly to develop their following with a dizzying number of shows and performances through the midwest. This is definitely a band you want to see in person!
Ghosthouse is an experience, and as their name suggests, that experience conjurs the funky soul of an era when funk and synthesizers enchanted the crowd like the Holy Ghost at a Baptist Church. The Chicago-based electrofunk trio, complete with a sexually tenacious performance persona, will rock North Coast with their distinct blend of retro and modern ‘80’s inspired rhythm. Check them out!
Artist: Alex Wiley
With music characterized by detailed song structure, lush production, and unpredictable flows, Chicago native Alex Wiley has established himself as an artist to be reckoned with throughout the city’s bubbling hip hop scene. Wiley will be adding to his already growing buzz with a lively set at this year’s North Coast festival.
