Chicago’s Artists on the Make: May 969 words · 5 minute read

Chicago is known for a few things. Generations of long-winded politicians lent us the moniker, “The Windy City.” Midwestern determination earned us the title, “The City of Big Shoulders.” But at Music Dealers, one of our favorite nicknames for our sweet home Chicago, wherein we’re headquartered, is a bit different.

Chicago: City on the Make is a prose poem penned by Nelson Algren in the ‘50s, and though it highlights the myriad struggles of our careworn city, the author ultimately declares his love for Chicago. We are the city on the make: a city full of up-and-comers and hustlers, hungry entrepreneurs and ambitious creatives. We’re the hardworking center of the universe, the cog that propels dreams to manifestation.

At Music Dealers, we’re proud of that term. We’re even more proud to work with some of Chicago’s most talented independent artists, whose determination beautifully represents Algren’s description. To celebrate them, we invite you to join us at their shows and witness the creative effusion of Chicago’s “Artists on the Make.”
