    You’d be surprised at how many Russian songs there are about cheating lovers. There are hundreds in the database of Music Dealers, for example, and that’s a tightly-curated catalogue of tracks for use in advertising, TV shows, films and games.

    I discovered the glut of unfaithfulness music during a demonstration of version 3.0 of the company’s Discovery Tool, which is used by the likes of MTV, Sony Pictures and Coca-Cola to source music for their content and campaigns, with detailed filters to sort through material from more than 20k artists around the world looking for sync deals.

    Music Dealers Press: Billboard Magazine - 30 Under 30 Featuring Eric Sheinkop

    Eric Sheinkop Co-Founder, President, Music Dealers Eric Sheinkop, 29, started out in management, forming Bandit Productions when he was just 16 years old. But early on–in 1999, by his estimation–he concluded that “it wasn’t about the record labels anymore [or the] traditional lanes artists used to hope for or aspire to. There were a lot more opportunities out there.” Sheinkop wound up rapping on a McDonald’s commercial in 2006, which inspired him to create Music Dealers, a licensing firm, two years later with his brother Jonathan and other partners.

    What is the story behind your company? The idea for Music Dealers was born in 2007 when Eric Sheinkop and John Williamson, then heads of a brand consulting and artist management company called Bandit Productions, grew frustrated with their inability to pitch for more licensing opportunities via their relationship with Ira Antelis, head of music worldwide at Leo Burnett. The fundamental problem was that Bandit only represented a handful of artists, the majority of whom created similar styles of music, and despite being presented with ample opportunities from Ira, they simply didn’t have the catalog of music to compete.
